For those in Rotterdam, today @varia is hosting a gathering for #8M:
Join us from 14:30-17:00 at Varia where we’ll publish a list of infra resistance tools, we’ll put together collective playlists, and work on a mobile library that that gives access to the collection of books started by the Fuzzy Mirror Solidarity Network for Palestine.
After the event at Varia we will go to the 8m march in Rotterdam and you are all welcome to join us! Those who cannot join the march, can listen to it being livestreamed on Narrowcast.
Can academia still be fun and experimental? Maybe it can with the printing, folding, and collage techniques of zines. In two hands-on workshops, Sander Hölsgens and James McGrail aimed to find out.
How zines can become a useful part of an anthropologist’s toolkit:
With support from @DigInfFund, members of our research cluster will soon begin research on the question: "What Comes After FOSS?"
Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) has been victorious, but the movement from which it stems appears to be a shambles. Many FOSS infrastructure contributors and maintainers are disillusioned, but critical technologists are also finding new ways to bring their work with digital technology into alignment with the political aim of defending the public interest. Understanding how they do so is important if we want to understand how digital infrastructure in the public interest can be made, maintained, and defended in the future.
